R Ashwin reveals what his wife forced him to watch, and he has no complaints

New Delhi: Ever wonder what your favourite cricketers do when they take an injury lay-off, at home, with family. Like any ordinary human being, they also catch up TV series and read books. And Ravichandran Ashwin is no different.

The ace Indian spinner, who is out of Indian Premier League (IPL) action due to sports hernia, is catching up with 'Game of Thrones'. And he revealed that he was forced to watch the blockbuster TV series by his wife, and now he's loving it.

It was one series which he tried to avoid because of it's nudity, but the 30-year-old claimed that the fantasy drama series based on George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series was just ade for him.

"I am actually watching Game of Thrones these days. I am a little late on it actually. I feel I should have watched it a long time ago. My wife kept asking me to watch it and I kept skipping it because I thought there was too much nudity in it. But once I started watching it, I felt it was one of those serials that were made just for me," Ashwin told TOI.

He also shared that Lannister siblings – Cersei, played by Lena Headey; and Tyrion played by Peter Dinklage – are his favourite characters. He also admitted that another American political drama 'House of Cards'is another series he loves.

"My favourite characters are Cersei and Tyrion. House of Cards is another serial that I just love," the Rising Pune Supergiant spinner added.

'Games of Thrones' will resume with its seventh season in mid-July, while House of Cards will return on May 30 with its fifth season.

Last week, Ashwin underwent scans in Mumbai following the four-match Test series against Australia, and has been advised to rest. But he is expected to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Ashwin was instrumental in India's prolific run which saw Virat Kohli & Co maintaining top spot in Test cricket. In the long home season which featured New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia, India won 10 of their 13 matches.

And Ashwin bowled a record 738.2 overs and picked up 82 wickets, another record. He and Ravindra Jadeja formed India's dreaded spin twins, which claimed 153 wickets in the season.
