Delhi journalist hit by speeding bike dies, youth held

A 46-year-old journalist working with a reputed national daily died after being hit by a speeding bike driven by a youth in south Delhi, the police said on Monday.

New Delhi: A 46-year-old journalist working with a reputed national daily died after being hit by a speeding bike driven by a youth in south Delhi, the police said on Monday.

Thed police said the youth identified as Dalip, 18, was arrested from his residence in Tuglakabad area. The accident occurred on Sunday around 5.30 p.m in a market located in Govindpuri locality.

Journalist Raj Kumar was a business correspondent with Hindustan Times and stayed with his family in Greenfield Colony at Faridabad. 

Dalip drove his bike rashly in busy and crowded Govindpuri market and hit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said.

"Kumar sustained head injury. Blood was seen coming out from his ears and he fell unconscious on the spot. He was taken to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) by a constable posted in Govindpuri police station," Baaniya said.

Kumar was later declared dead by doctors in AIIMS, the police said.

Dalip is a school dropout and was not involved in any previous criminal case, the police officer said.
