Now, you may need Aadhaar card for air travel

New Delhi: The government has recently decided to make Aadhaar number mandatory for filing of Income Tax returns and compulsory linking it with your Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.

It is even contemplating to make Aadhaar card also mandatory for obtaining SIM cards.

Fresh in the list could be air travel. As per a report in the Times of India, the government has told Wipro to develop a “blueprint for Aadhaar-based biometric access to flyers at all airports across India.”

The IT major is expected to come up with the blueprint by next month.

Following this, airports will “begin the process of a passenger's thumb being all the identification he or she requires to fly, for domestic flights as international ones will need passports,” the TOI report said.

“The push towards taking a concrete step in this direction came at a recent meeting of various airport operators and airlines with aviation minister Jayant Sinha and aviation secretary R N Choubey,” TOI added.
