Mumbai: Sooraj Pancholi`s bail plea will be heard in the Bombay High Court today. He was charged with abetting the suicide of actress Jiah Khan and was denied bail by a lower court, June 21.
Son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab was arrested by the Mumbai police after Jiah Khan committed suicide. Sooraj was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide (under Section 306 of the IPC) on June 10 after a six-page farewell note was recovered from the deceased actress’ residence. According to the officer investigating the case, the police required time to probe into the matter since Sooraj had deleted several texts and other messages from his cell phone. On June 13, the Mumbai police had stated that they would oppose the bail plea of the aspiring actor. Jiah’s mother Rabbiya Khan had handed over the six-page note to the police three days after the actress had breathed her last. Sooraj’s arrest came close on the heels of Rabbiya Khan’s statement to the police. While Jiah’s mother has been fighting tooth and nail for her daughter, and has been heard accusing Sooraj Pancholi for her daughter’s suicide, Zarina Wahab, Sooraj’s mother, has been defending her son all through. In the middle of all the controversies, Sooraj Pancholi’s former girlfriend - Janvi Turakhia - broke her silence on Jiah Khan suicide case. She has asserted that she never found her boyfriend of five years, abusive or violent. According to DNA, Turakhia - who was in a long-term relationship with Sooraj - is shocked to hear the claims made against him of abetting Jiah Khan`s suicide. She said that all the allegations are false and that he is just being framed. Justifying her silence until now, Janvi clarified that she steered clear from the limelight for so long because she didn’t want TV channels to stall outside her house. But now, she felt the need to come forward and make it clear that Sooraj is unnecessarily being made the villain in Jiah’s suicide case. “Whatever I am reading and hearing in the papers and TV, it is like they are talking about another person altogether. Of course my heart goes out to Jiah’s family. But I can’t believe a word of what they are saying about Sooraj! This Sooraj, who is supposed to have done these awful things to that poor girl, is not the Sooraj I know. My Sooraj is incapable of violence against anyone. He hates any kind of confrontation. Whenever we fought I was the one who was more aggressive. He would quietly leave the room. If he’s angry or upset he likes to be on his own to work his way out of the problem,” she said. Jiah Khan, who forayed into the Hindi film industry with the 2007 Ram Gopal Varma film ‘Nishabd’, across Amitabh Bachchan, hanged herself at her Juhu apartment on the night of June 3.
