Cairo: Paintings of Indian artist Shubha Mallya were today put on display at the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in Egypt's capital Cairo, exhibiting a blend of the cultures of the two countries in her art form.

The exhibition 'Expressions' is a cultural blend of Egyptian and Indian Ethos which is mainly expressed with oil and acrylic on canvas, said Mallya, who lives here.

Mallya said she follows abstract and semi-abstract style of expression in her paintings as it gives an essence of "fluidity, flexibility and timelessness."

The exhibition will be on display till June 4.

Established in 1982, the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture is the only Indian cultural centre in the region.

Cairo was chosen as the location for this centre because of Egypt's pre-eminent position in the Arab speaking world, its history of cultural cosmopolitanism and its civilisational links with India.
