`Acid Factory` is an edgy film, says Supran Verma

Mumbai: Director Supran Verma, whose `Acid Factory` is set to hit the screens next month, says it is not a grotesque but an edgy movie. "Acid Factory is not at all too violent or grotesque. We have pushed the envelope as far as we could," Supran said.
"It is an honest and a very different effort. No Hindi movie has been like this so far," he told reporters. The film, slated for October 9 release, is a thrilling story of six characters trapped together in an acid factory. To top it, they all have lost their memories. They do not know who they are or and do not recognise the other person. They do not, therefore, know whom to trust, Supran said. You can say that it is `Ghajini` (an edge-of-the- seat thriller starring Aamir Khan) multiplied by six, he quipped. On parallels being drawn with 2006 Hollywood film `Unknown` by Simon Brand, Supran, who had earlier directed `Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena`, said he does not bother about precedents. "I do not know whether it is a rip off or not. Three years ago the writer came up with this story which appealed to me. And I decided to direct it. I do not know or care whether it is a remake of some Hollywood movie or not." Asked about the film`s rather unusual title, Supran said the acid factory is much more than just a background in the movie. "It is an integral part of the story. Therefore, the movie could not have been christened anything other than Acid Factory," the director said. Acid here does not necessarily mean toxic, but has romantic connotations, he said. "We were trying for a solo release. There is no point in pitting the movie against some biggie and getting the audience divided. Fortunately, we got October 9, a slot which was not eyed by anyone." On handling a multi-starrer, Supran said, when there is more than one main character in a movie, they not only work with each other, but also against each other. Group dynamics works in the favour of the movie. `Acid Factory` stars Fardeen Khan, Dia Mirza, Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Dino Moria and Aftab Shivdasani, among others. Quizzed whether he wants to concentrate on a particular genre -action thriller - Supran said he would also like to try his hands at romcoms and other varieties. "I would certainly like to try different genres, scripting movies," he added. Bureau Report
