Legendary actress Sandhya to be honoured at V Shantaram awards

Mumbai: The V Shantaram annual film awards will be given away here on Monday where Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and the Malayalam actor Mohanlal are vying for the best actor award. Best film nominations include Bhramaram (Malayalam), Gabharicha Paus (Marathi), Harischandrachi Factory (Marathi), Kanchivaram (Tamil), Love Aaj Kal (Hindi) and New York (Hindi). When V Shantaram was making the film Do Ankhen Barah Hath, he met with an accident and became blind for some time. During his blindness he started seeing colours and that’s the genesis of Navrang. This year’s awards function proceeds will be given to `Right To Vision`, a division Wockhardt Foundation, who conduct free eye camps in 28 cities all over India, Shantaram said. Paresh Mokashi (Harischandrachi Factory), Satish Manwar (Gabhricha Paus), Madhur Bhandarkar (Fashion), Priyadarshan (Kanchivaram), Imtiaz Ali (Love Aaj Kal) and Kabir Khan (New York) are in the race for Best director award. Satish Manwar (Gabharicha Paus), Nandita Das (Firaaq), Santosh Manjrekar (Mi Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy), Ranjith Sankar (Passenger-Malyalam), Kishore Kumar (Konchem Istam Konchem Kashtam-Tamil) are in fray for Best debut director. Anushka Sharma (Rab Na Bana Di Jodi), Kalki Koechlin (Dev D), Mugdha Godse (Fashion), Priya Bapat (Mi Shivaji Raje Boltoy) are in the nominations for the best debut artiste in lead role. The other nominations include-Best Supporting Actor--Irfan Khan (New York), Om Puri (Delhi-6), Paresh Rawal (Oye Lucky Lucky Oye), Amole Gupte (Kaminey) and Vinay Pathak (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi).
