‘Through the glass walls’ is a wonderfully written emotional description of a guy who transcends hurdles into opportunities and creates a niche for himself. AK Gupta’s book is a semi-autobiographical account that spans a major period in his life. The author, however denies the tag, describing the stories as semi-fiction but his narratives are hardly far from reality. Gupta, through his protagonist Ashok, creates an intense curiosity in the mind of the reader; he has an infallible eye for life’s diversity, its hardship and love. Bengal has left an indelible imprint on Ashok’s mind and even miles away in Pittsburgh he has kept the little narrow streets of Kolkata in his heart. Through The Glass Walls has provides a glimpse of those rare sublime moments that illuminate one’s experiences. This is a generous, original portrayal of a great journey called ‘life’. The book is not just a string of episodic tales assembled together but, various moments of our lives, capturing its sensitivity and fragility. A must read.
