London: Asif Kapadia, a British filmmaker of Indian descent, has been chosen to helm a new documentary on Amy Winehouse`s life.
Kapadia, who won a Bafta for his 2010 film Senna, about racing driver Ayrton Senna, said that Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent and "she wrote and sang from the heart and everyone fell under her spell."
He asserted that people celebrated her huge success but then they also were quick to judge her failings, the Mirror reported.
The yet-untitled documentary film will also feature never-before-seen footage of the tragic musician, who died at her Camden home from alcohol poisoning in July 2011, aged just 27, and is the first to be endorsed by her family.
Amy`s parents Mitch and Janice have been overwhelmed with requests by filmmakers regarding her legacy, but finally gave permission to Kapadia after he convinced them that he would tell her story with "sensitivity" and "without sensationalising her."
The film will be produced by James Gay-Rees, who worked on the Banksy documentary `Exit Through The Gift Shop.`
