‘Hangover 2’ set for release after dismissal of Tyson’s tattoo artist’s lawsuit

Former boxing champ Mike Tyson’s tattoo artist has lost his bid to sue Warner Brothers over what he described as a “reckless copyright infringement” of one of his tattoos.

London: Former boxing champ Mike Tyson’s tattoo artist has lost his bid to sue Warner Brothers over what he described as a “reckless copyright infringement” of one of his tattoos.
S Victor Whitmill, who gave the Tyson his Maori-inspired facial ink, claimed it was illegally reproduced on the face of Ed Helms in ‘The Hangover Part 2’.
Whitmill had filed a motion in Federal District Court in St. Louis on April 28, asking a judge to order Warner Brothers to stop using what he calls his “tribal tattoo” in its posters or in the movie. The case had threatened to block the film from being released later this week, but a judge dismissed the lawsuit, much to the relief of film bosses. “We are very gratified by the Court’s decision which will allow the highly anticipated film, The Hangover 2, to be released on schedule this week around the world,” the Daily Mail quoted the studio as saying in a statement. “Plaintiff’s failed attempt to enjoin H2 in order to try and extract a massive settlement payment from Warner Bros. was highly inappropriate and unwarranted,” it added.
