Melissa Rivers convinced me to take 'Fashion Police': Griffin

Los Angeles: Actress Kathy Griffin reveals it was Joan Rivers' daughter's one phone call which persuaded her to replace the comedienne as the host of TV show 'Fashion Police'.

There were a lot of speculations about Joan's replacement for 'Fashion Police', after she died last year following a heart attack during throat surgery, reported E! Online.

Griffin, 54, who shared a close friendship with Joan, is aware she has some seriously big shoes to fill as Joan was the face of the show, which features fashion experts commenting on celebrity outfits.

"I am no Joan and she left such big shoes to fill that I brought my own slippers. I will continue in the fearless approach that she had about celebrities and pop culture and fashion," Griffin said.

"Melissa called me and she said, 'I know that my mom would have given you and you alone the blessing' and that really was it. First of all, Melissa was Joan's world and I think that Joan took the show to another level and I will do it in my way because obviously we are two completely different people," she said.

When asked what kind of host will she be on the show, she said "Nobody knows what I'm going to say and nobody is safe," she teased. "I think that I will continue in the tradition of not being afraid to say what we're all thinking at home in our PJs watching."

Griffin and Brad Goreski join returning hosts Kelly Osbourne and Guiliana Rancic. George Kotsiopoulos is no longer on the show.
