Bhajan Sopori and Faiyaz Khan honoured

New Delhi: Eminent classical musicians including Tabla player Ustad Faiyaz Khan and Santoor player Pandit Bhajan Sopori were awarded by the Ustad Ashique Ali Khan memorial society.While the tabla maestro was given the `Taal Samrat` award, Sopori was honoured with the `Sangeet Bhushan` award. Along with the two veterans, young Sarangi player Murad Ali Khan was awarded with the title of `Sarangi Ratna` and Lokesh Anand was felicitated with the `Shehnai Ratna` award.

The society which was founded in 2000, a year after the death of renowned Sarangi maestro Ustad Ashique Ali Khan by his family aims at "encouraging young talent and honouring the veterans". The award ceremony was accompanied by a concert which saw a santoor recital by Abhay Rustum Sopori and renowned vocalist Pandit Madhup Mudgal. PTI
