London: Simon Cowell was secretly engaged to Page Three girl, Louise Payne, it has been sensationally revealed in a new unauthorised biography written by former BBC journalist Tom Bower. The music mogul reportedly proposed to Payne, after she split with husband and ‘Right Said Fred’ star Fred Fairbrass.

According to a leading daily, the pair’s three-year relationship ended when the buxom blonde said she wanted to start a family with the 52-year-old but he was too busy. A string of revelations have been made about Cowell since the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent judge’s book, ‘Sweet Revenge: The Intimate life of Simon Cowell’, released. He apparently popped the question to the now-43-year-old in a lift during a business trip to New York. “Simon was heartbroken. They tried to make it work but it all went wrong,” a leading daily has quoted a source as saying. The pair met at a function in London in 1995, after the end of Payne’s marriage to guitarist Fairbrass, now 55. However, their relationship did not run smoothly and Cowell was shattered when their romance ended, as Payne wanted to start a family. “The relationship had its ups and downs. They split twice but he was so in love with her he kept trying to make it work,” the source said. “After the third attempt, they split for good. It was just before he started on Pop Idol. Louise wanted kids and he knew he wasn’t ready. He never stopped loving her, though. He was heartbroken,” the source added. ANI
