Mumbai: Here’s some good news for those who wish to have weddings styled uniquely. The concept of destination weddings has become a huge hit. But weddings on board cruise ships may become a reality soon. Yes, you heard it right!

The shipping ministry headed by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is reportedly planning to allow cruise ships organise weddings on board.

A report in Hindustan Times suggests that the Ministry is planning to let cruise ships organise weddings with banquet and entertainment facilities.

“Marriage cruise service will be started soon with additional banquet and entertainment facilities. We are considering a proposal from a private player who is keen on starting the service between Mumbai and Chennai. A decision will be taken soon,” HT quoted Gadkari as saying.

India has a coastline of 7500 kilometers and yet cruise tourism is yet to gain momentum and the much needed boost.

“The shipping and the tourism ministry will together redraft the cruise shipping policy. We are not only looking at upgrading our port infrastructure but will also include other services such as floating restaurants, etc. to encourage private players to invest in cruise tourism,” Gadkari added.
