12,000 join Dubai walkathon to beat diabetes

Dubai: More than 12,000 people took part in a walkathon here to raise awareness about diabetes.
It was organised at the Oasis Centre by the Landmark Group.
Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram, who also participated, said: "Living with diabetes is a daily struggle but can be managed by following a disciplined lifestyle." According to the International Diabetes Federation, the number of people living with diabetes in the world is expected to increase from 366 million in 2011 to 552 million by 2030, unless preventive steps are taken immediately.
