Delhi: They say something that is born from a noble cause, is bound to prosper. Manish Malhotra`s Spring Summer collection for 2013, `Mijwan Sonnets in Fabric`, is a glowing reminder of that fact. On the one hand where Parineeti Chopra made sure that she made every pair of eye in the hall stay riveted on to her for as long as she was on the ramp, social activist/actress Shabana Azmi held the audience under a spell with her recitation of Kaifi Azmi`s poetry. Yes, what just ensued last night at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week was nothing short of a dream. One that wove together snippets from the society and the world of fashion - and left every soul present, touched, and a lot different from what they had expected to encounter within the contours of that place.
In order to promote the Mijwan Welfare Society, a non-governmental organisation founded by noted lyricist Kaifi Azmi, designer Manish Malhotra pieced together his collection. The embroidery and craftsmanship showcased by the girls of Mijwan, a tiny village near Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, stood out vividly in Malhotra`s creations that were unveiled on the second day of the ongoing Fashion Week. Indian Evening Wear, Malhotra`s focus at the current show, saw the return of earthy, subdued tones of ivory, burnt orange, creme, dull shades of red, pink and so on. Chikankari - the traditional embroidery from the interiors of the country, sees a newer twist in Malhotra`s creations. The intrinsic needlework by the Mijwan girls transformed each attire into a phenomenon of sorts. The elegance of the embroidery is a result of a variety of stitches and different grades of threads that had been used to weave into the dresses, those beautiful patterns. Along with the ethnic embroidery by the girls of Mijwan, are the stunning and immaculate designs that are a brainchild of Manish Malhotra. Bridging the hiatus between the old and the new, the designer gave rise to a tornado on the ramp. And needless to say, Parineeti, in her black and red ensemble, looked otherworldly. Manish Malhotra`s Indian Evening Wear collection brought the curtains down on a magnificent second day at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013!
