Ahmedabad: Tension gripped Gujarat's Surat on Monday after members of the Patidar community allegedly set two buses on fire in the city.
The buses were torched in Hirabag Chowk area of Surat.
As per ANI, Patidar agitation activists were protesting against Vijay Tankar Sammelan by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Surat.
The city police arrived at the scene and resorted to lathi-charge before arresting more than 15 Patidars. The youngsters were detained for disrupting a BJP Yuva Morcha rally earlier in the day, said an India Today report.
Following the arrest, Patidar community leader Hardik Patel took to Twitter to demand the release of agitating workers.
"If the youth aren't released at the earliest, then Gujarat will witness a revolution," Hardik Patel said in a tweet posted in Gujarati.
