Women students protest in Gurugram over promotion policy

Over 400 students from three Gurugram government colleges, affiliated to MDU, failed in 50 per cent of their subjects this year.

Gurugram: Students of the Government College for Girls here protested on Monday over the institute`s decision not to admit those students to the next class, who failed in half of their subjects.

The protest also led to traffic disruption as over 100 women students blocked the traffic outside the college in Sector 14 and shouted slogans against Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak.

The MDU had issued guidelines and ordered principals not to allow admissions in the next class to the first year students who have failed in 50 per cent subjects.

The students were demanding admission in the second year. "One precious year will go in vain by the decision. Students can clear papers in the second attempt," a protesting student said.

Sushila Sharma, principal of the college and other senior officials assured the protesters that the issue would be discussed with the concerned authorities.

These guidelines were issued by MDU last year but admissions were allowed after similar protests by students.
