New Delhi: Nearly 110 children suffering from cancer were taken for a visit to the historic Sion Fort here, in a bid to boost their morale to fight the disease by an NGO.

During the visit on March 4, the children were made to feel like "warriors" fighting the dreaded disease, said CANKIDS...KIDSCAN, an NGO engaged in the welfare of kids suffering from cancer which had organised the trip.

"We aim to felicitate children suffering from cancer. The kids are warriors as they fight cancer while their parents, doctors and nurses are angels who help them fight the disease," the NGO said in a statement.

"The idea of holding such a trip is to motivate the children and make them feel that they can fight the disease bravely while saluting the angles (parents, doctors and nurses) to help them recover from cancer," it said.

The NGO said it wants to draw the government's attention towards the cause so that the treatment of cancer in children is taken as a health priority in the country.

It claimed that every year more than three lakh children and adolescents across the world are diagnosed with one of 16 forms of childhood cancers, out of which 40,000-50,000 are in India.
