Washington: Continuing humour-blended attacks on Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama, after his much-discussed `Romnesia` jibe, on Saturday termed his Republican challenger as a "salesman" who was trying to "repackage" failed ideas this elections.
"Governor Romney is a very gifted salesman. So he`s been trying in this campaign as hard as he can to repackage these ideas that didn`t work, the very same policies that did not work, and he`s trying to pretend that they`re change," Obama said in an election speech in Springfield, Ohio.
"Have you heard him? He`s going around saying `I`m the candidate of change`. Except when you look at the policies, they`re the same ones that didn`t work," Obama said amidst laughter.
Addressing three election meetings in Ohio, Obama lashed out at Romney for his camp`s advertisement which said that Jeep plants were going to be shipping jobs to China.
"Of course, it turns out it`s not true. The car companies themselves have told Governor Romney to knock it off. Knock it off. That`s what they say," he said.
"General Motors said, we think creating jobs in the US should be a source of bipartisan pride. That`s what they said, and they`re right. I couldn`t agree more," he said.
"I understand Governor Romney has a tough time here in Ohio, because he was against saving the auto industry, which accounts for one out of eight jobs here in Ohio. So it`s a problem for him, but you can`t run away -- four days, five days, six days before an election -- from that position, especially when you`re on videotape saying the words `let Detroit go bankrupt`. He said it," Obama said.
Addressing another meeting in Lima, Ohio, Obama claimed he
was carrying out the real change in America.
"As long as I`m commander in chief, we will pursue our enemies with the strongest military the world`s ever known. But it`s time to use the savings from ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to pay down our debt, to rebuild US," he said.
"You know, change is a future where we reduce our deficit, but we do it in a balanced, responsible way."
First Lady Michelle Obama, while campaigning in Virginia noted that although America had a "long way to go" to completely rebuild the economy, there were "more and more" clear signs that the country on the road to recovery.
Obama, owing to his "personal experiences" underlining importance of a family, will make sure that woman are "treated fairly", Michelle asserted.
"That`s why the very first bill he signed as President was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to help women get equal pay for equal work," the First Lady said.
