London: A schoolgirl cancer victim has revealed that watching a Cameron Diaz film saved her life after she noticed the symptoms in the movie.
Alex Cooper, 17, who had fatigue, bruises, headaches and a swollen stomach, noticed the symptoms were similar to a girl in ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ – in which Diaz plays the ill youngster’s mum.
Worried Cooper went to her GP and discovered she had the disease chronic myeloid leukaemia.
A course of gruelling chemotherapy caught the rare cancer in time and she is now in remission.
Cooper, of Bredgar near Sittingbourne, Kent, put her symptoms down to being a “lazy teenager”.
“If it wasn’t for watching that film I may not have got my diagnosis in time,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.
“I’m really lucky to have seen it, but I can’t bring myself to watch it again.
“It’s too upsetting, so I’ve hidden it under my bed,” she said.
