I will be striving for blockbuster films: Sharman Joshi

Sharman Joshi`s primary motive would be to be a part of good films.

Mumbai: Actor Sharman Joshi, who is basking in the glory of his recently released solo hero film ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’, says that even though he would strive for blockbuster films, his primary motive would be to be a part of good films as that would eventually reflect at the Box Office.
Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ featured Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and child actor Ritvik Sahore.
"I am member of a club that is here to make good cinema or striving towards making good cinema. It is a new club and it assures you that figures will come. That (figures) is secondary and that will happen, primary motive is to strive towards making good cinema," Sharman told reporters in an interview. "We have seen a film like `3 Idiots` being the biggest blockbusters of the year. It is one of the best films. There will be no compromise on Box Office. But the primary agenda is to make good films. You make a good film you get love and affection from audiences and that will convert into numbers. or sure, I will be striving for blockbuster (film). I can give that assurance. But then we are all humans," he added. Released on June 15, `Ferrari Ki Sawari` had a low opening, but gradually the film picked up and did a business of Rs 25 crore worldwide. Asked why the film did not pick up on day one, the 33-year-old actor said, "That was meant to be. That was expected. It is my first solo film and I do not have a box office standing. That was a ground reality and we are not shying away from that. Vidhu Vinod Chopra is completely aware of this; we were not expecting an opening." "We were expecting our content would do the talking. The first day opening of Rs 3 crore is a huge figure for me compared to other standards, which my other films have opened. The credit goes to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, who has written the dialogues and coming after `3 Idiots`... And also that the promos were liked by all," he said. ’Ferrari Ki Sawari’ is debutant director Rajesh Mapuskar`s fun-filled story of small guys and their big dreams and how these dreams turn into a mad comedy of errors. It has opened to positive reviews from the film industry and audience reactions. "On the day of the release, we had several feelings like for trade (box office collection), our colleagues from the business (producers and distributors), etc. But we had got warm reception from the people from the industry already, so the nerves were not that much on the premiere night or the day of the release. But there was a sense of keenness to go out and watch it with the public," Sharman said. "Boman and I went at night at a theatre and we saw audiences applauding and both of us were delighted. I was satisfied with the way audience was reacting," he added. Asked if he would love to do solo films, Sharman said, "No...I think it is not cool to look at films as whether they are solo films or ensemble. It is a little shallow. It is like wanting to be part of scripts that excites me and then it could be a solo hero project or with ensemble cast. "I believe in complete entertainers. A film does not have to give message all the time. I am going to work across all genres including absolute entertainers, action films. I am going to strive to work in all possible genres. I am going to keep it exciting for myself and audience." Sharman would now be seen next in Tanuja Chandra directed film, which will be produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. "My next film is romantic drama with two boys and a girl. It is Tanuja Chandra`s movie. We will start shooting for it probably by the end of year or early next year." PTI
