Nicolas Cage wins apology over false tax evasion story

Nicolas Cage has received damages and apology from a British newspaper that falsely accused him of tax evasion, it has been revealed.

London: Nicolas Cage has received damages and apology from a British newspaper that falsely accused him of tax evasion, it has been revealed.
The ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ star received an undisclosed sum in damages from the publishers, the BBC reported.
The story was published in the Daily Mail’s online edition last month and the article centred on how late the Oscar Winner was in returning DVDs that he had rented from a shop, but Cage issued proceedings over other claims. Paul Tweed, senior partner in Johnsons Law confirmed a settlement had been reached within a month of taking action on behalf of Cage. “My client has secured a complete vindication of his reputation following the publication of a categoric retraction by the MailOnline for what they immediately acknowledged was a completely unfounded and defamatory allegation of tax evasion,” he said. “While my client acknowledges the MailOnline’s prompt apology, which was one of the quickest that I have negotiated in recent times, together with the payment of undisclosed damages and his legal costs, he nonetheless remains very concerned that such a false and outrageous headline should have been published in the first place,” he added.
