Women should empower themselves first: Khusboo Sundar

Kochi: Tamil actress and DMK politician, Khusboo Sundar, Tuesday asked women to empower themselves before asking for women`s empowerment in Parliament or Assembly.

"Why speak of women`s empowerment? Kerala is 100 per cent literate. But how many women are career oriented? Quite surprising not many," the 41-year-old said while addressing management students here. "Women should come out of the shell they have created and need to fight for their rights within themselves. We need to realise that we are the biggest force. We need to empower ourselves before asking for women`s empowerment in Parliament and assemblies," she added. On big corporates, including Reliance and UTV, entering the film industry, she said we need to be passionate about filmmaking. "But making films is not about making money. You have to be passionate about filmmaking. "I think it makes it less problematic or easier for us to reach out to people. We have done many awareness camps. For me, being an actor or celebrity, it did help to get entry into politics. That itself is not enough as hard work is needed to carry forward the journey," she said. She also advised women entrepreneurs not to lose their self-respect and integrity. PTI
