AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal backs 'Mahagathbandhan', urges Congress, Mamata to join it in Assam
AIUDF Chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal on Friday said that his party will be part of the Mahagathbandhan led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Assam. "We expect Mamata Banerjee & Congress to join it by then. This has been formed to bid adieu to BJP at the Centre," he said.
Guwahati: All India Democratic United Front (AIUDF) Chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal on Friday said that his party will be part of the Mahagathbandhan led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Ajmal said he expects Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and the Congress party to join the grand alliance in Assam within a month. Talking to the media during the General Council Meeting of AIUDF, Ajmal said, "We've welcomed the all-India grand alliance being formed by Nitish Kumar. We want it to succeed in Assam too. They'll come here in a month. We expect Mamata Banerjee & Congress to join it by then. This has been formed to bid adieu to BJP at the Centre".
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, who severed ties with the BJP and joined hands with the RJD and the Congress to form the government in Bihar in August has been meeting opposition leaders in a bid to bring all opposition parties together to defeat the BJP in 2024.

Earlier in September, The Bihar CM along with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. The meeting at Gandhi's 10 Janpath residence is being considered very crucial in forging opposition unity as efforts are on to reconcile differences between the Congress and some regional parties that have been at loggerheads traditionally.

He also met Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Earlier Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had also visited Bihar and met Nitish Kumar, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as part of efforts toward forging opposition unity.
