Why is Congress so worried, don't they trust their candidates?: Goa CM on exit poll

Goa CM Pramod Sawant said that Congress is keeping their candidates in isolation and under pressure ahead of the Assembly election results on March 10.

New Delhi: A day before the Goa Assembly poll results, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took a dig at the Congress and asked if the grand old party does not trust its candidates. 

Many exit polls have predicted a hung assembly in Goa. “Result (for Assembly polls) is tomorrow, don't know why Congress is so worried, don't they trust their candidates? They're keeping candidates in isolation and under pressure, without knowing who's winning. BJP will come to power with a majority,” Sawant was quoted by ANI.

Congress is desperate to avoid the 2017 Assembly poll scenario when it had emerged as the single largest party by winning 17 seats in the 40-member House but ended up with only two MLAs after most of them defected. BJP had formed the government in 2017 in Goa. 

As per PTI, the Congress has shifted all the candidates who had contested the 2022 Assembly polls to a luxury resort in Bambolim village near Panaji ahead of the results on March 10.

A senior Congress leader said that the party may not allow some candidates even to visit the counting centre on Thursday. 

However, Michael Lobo, who quit the BJP-led Goa government and contested on a Congress ticket, said all the candidates will go to the counting centre.

According to Zee News exit poll 2022, Goa is likely to witness a change in government in 2022, with Congress dominating the Assembly election results. Congress alliance seems to be emerging as the largest party with 33 per cent vote share. The BJP is likely to follow Congress in a close fight with 31 per cent vote share. MGP coalition, AAP and others are likely to grab 12 per cent vote share each, as per Zee exit poll.
