Jeevan Raksha Padak series of awards are given to a person for the meritorious act of human nature in saving the life of a person.  The award is given in three categories, namely, Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Jeevan Raksha Padak.

New Delhi: The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, has approved the conferment of Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards – 2020 on 40 persons which includes Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak to one, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak to eight and Jeevan Raksha Padak to 31 persons. One award is posthumous.  

Jeevan Raksha Padak series of awards are given to a person for the meritorious act of human nature in saving the life of a person.  

The award is given in three categories, namely, Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Jeevan Raksha Padak.  Persons of all walks of life are eligible for these awards. The award can also be conferred posthumously.

The decoration of the award (medal, a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister, and lump sum monetary allowance) is presented to the awardee in due course by the respective Union Ministries/Organizations/state government to which the awardee belongs. 

The recipients are given a lump-sum monetary allowance at the following rates:

- Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak Rs 2,00,000/-

- Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak Rs  1,50,000/-

- Jeevan Raksha Padak Rs 1,00,000/-

Other than the one-time monetary allowance, no other facility/benefit in terms of any concession in Railways, Airfare etc. is provided by the government.

As per practice, cases once considered by the Awards Committee and not found suitable for an award are not placed before it for reconsideration.
