Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case hearing: As it happened on December 05, 2017

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will commence on February 8, 2018 its hearing on a batch of petitions challenging a 2010 Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya title suit that had divided the disputed Babri Masjid site between the Nirmohi Akhara, Lord Ram deity and the Sunni Waqf board.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S Abdul Nazeer directed that all the advocates on record will work in harmony and ensure that all documents are filed, if not already filed.

The Babri Masjid is said to have been built by Mughal emperor Babur in Ayodhya in 1528. However, Hindus have claimed that there was originally a Ram temple which was demolished to construct the mosque.

Sibal told the SC that he and other petitioners have not been served relevant documents of pleadings.

Kapil Sibal who is representing Sunni Waqf Board raised doubts over assertions of ASG Mehta. He asked how can more than 19,000 pages of documents be filed in such short time.

Tushar Mehta said that all related documents and requisite translation copies are already on record.

However, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta, who is representing the State of Uttar Pradesh rebutted all Sibal's arguments.
