Rahul Gandhi's hit-and-run job won't help, Congress undermined competence: SM Krishna

New Delhi: Former union minister SM Krishna, who quit Congress to join BJP, on Thursday took potshots at his former party bosses and said that its leadership's “hit-and-run job” would not help as politics is a serious work.

“Congress needs to be rebuilt from the ground to the top, but I see no seriousness in the leadership,” Krishna said without taking Rahul’s name.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, he said, “Dynastic politics without giving any importance to competence is the bane of Congress party”.

Asked if he had raised the issues afflicting the party, the 84-year-old said, “Where is the opportunity for that?

“So I stayed away from making suggestions for long. But look at the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working and the BJP president is working.

“They are very focussed and hard working.”

Krishna, who is India's former External Affairs Minister, said “Modi ji has zero tolerance towards corruption, I was impressed with this.

“I also supported the Demonetisation move.”

"All that I needed was respect and periodical consultations, I never demanded any position," Krishna earlier told reporters.

Whereas in the Congress, he said, “There is no connect between the leadership and the rank and file of the party.”

Before becoming a union minister, Krishna had served as the chief minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004.

Asked what he liked about PM Modi, he said, “I have been reading about him of late and I am quite impressed with his ideas about environment protection, animal welfare and so on.”
