Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service resumes after two weeks

Authorities said the bus left from here in the morning for Kaman Post on the Line of Control (LoC).

Srinagar: After remaining suspended for two weeks, the "Karvan-e-Aman" (Caravan of Peace) bus service resumed on Monday between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.

Authorities said the bus left from here in the morning for Kaman Post on the Line of Control (LoC).

Members of divided families living on the two sides of the LoC cross the Aman Setu bridge on foot and then board buses on the two sides to reach their respective destinations.

While one bus carries passengers from Srinagar to Aman Setu, a similar bus carries passengers from Muzaffarabad to the bridge where the crossing over takes place.

The service was suspended last week because the army was conducting an operation close to Kaman Post on the Indian side.

The bus service was started as a major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) between India and Pakistan on April 7, 2005 to facilitate contact between members of divided families.
