An earthquake with its epicentre in Afghanistan jolted Rajasthan, forcing people to run out of their houses and offices.

Jaipur Metro stopped its services for 10 minutes, officials said. The quake was also felt in other parts of Rajasthan.

Delhi government activated its disaster management teams soon after strong tremors jolted the national capital making people scurry for cover and bringing the metro to a halt.

Reports said that at least 11 people were killed in Pakistan. The quake was felt in most of the northern parts of Pakistan including such major cities as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargoda and Kohat, officials said.

Two Army personnel were injured when their bunker collapsed following tremors in Sopore, 55 kms from here, in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The bunker collapsed inside Ganjoo house, where an Army unit is camping, resulting in injuries to two soldiers, following which they were taken to the hospital, officials said.

A massive earthquake measuring 7.5 on richter scale today jolted north India, with panic-stricken people rushing out of houses and buildings that shook during the temblor lasting almost a minute.

The quake measured 7.5 on the Richter scale with an epicentre at Hindukush region in Afghanistan. The quake struck at around 2.40 PM.

Everywhere, tens of thousands of people fled out of their homes and high-rise buildings.

Besides the national capital, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were also jolted by strong tremors.

The US Geological Survey said the epicentre lay 45 km south-southwest of Jarm in Afghanistan, around 240 km from capital Kabul. It put the intensity at 7.7 on the Richter scale.
