Mumbai: Taking law into their own hands is not new for Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

In a fresh incident, an MNS leader Nitin Nandgaonkar made a cab driver do sit-ups outside Mumbai airport as the driver was neither carrying his badge nor wearing the uniform.

Posting the video of the incident on his Facebook page, he wrote, "Public safety is in danger as there are illegal taxi and auto drivers who don't have registered batches and uniforms... They are getting this freedom as police and RTO police are allowing them for just a petty amount... If from now onwards any such drivers are caught without uniform or batches, then they should be ready for the circumstances from my side as a Maharashtra sainik."

The video was posted on February 17, 2018, and has been viewed close to hundred thousand times.

Later, Nandgaonkar was quoted as saying by DNA, "Yes, we beat such auto and taxi drivers, who also cheat public by taking the extra fare, as the police and authority are not taking action against them. Had they (police and RTO) taken action, we wouldn't have a need to do this. For the public, we have to take a law in our hands, we are not against any particular community or outsiders but we want these people to follow the rules and not to harass the common public."

"MNS chief Raj Thackeray has also instructed us to work for the public and we are doing that," he added.

DNA also reported that the police has shown an inability to take action against them, no complaint was received against them. "We have not received any complaints yet however we will look into it," a senior IPS officer was quoted as saying.
