The incident took place in Sharmawadi Yadav chawl in Santosh Bhuvan, Nalasopara (East).

The man identified as Ajay Yadav (35) used a sharp knife to chop off his wife Saroja's (28) head and palms at around 1 AM. He was later arrested from his hideout, a cowshed in Kaman, Vasai (East).

Following the murder, Yadav took his three children, two sons and a daughter to his father's place at Ramjiyavan, said Kishore Khairnar inspector of Tuling police station.

The weapon used for the murder is yet to be recovered, added Khairnar. Meanwhile, the police have initiated the probe to ascertain the reason behind Yadav's extreme step.

Reportedly, the couple had a fight over domestic issues on Thursday night.

Yadav has been charged with murder under section 302 of the IPC and will be produced in court on Saturday.
