Mumbai: In the crucial electoral contest of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), BJP and Shiv Sena are likely to be engaged in neck-and-neck battle.
According to a latest exit poll, BJP is likely to get 80-88 seats.
Shiv Sena may get 86-92 seats.
Moreover, Congress is expected to get 30-34 seats.
NCP and MNS are likely to get 3-6 and 5-7 seats respectively, according to Axis-My India opinion poll aired on India Today.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has 227 seats.
Current situation: Partywise seat breakup
As of now, out of 227 seats, the Shiv Sena has 75 of the 227 seats, BJP has 31, the Congress has 52 while the NCP has 13.
Retaining control of BMC is vital for Shiv Sena as the city has remained its prime political space ever since the party's formation in 1966.
Shiv Sena has been in power in BMC for over two decades.
Results
The result of BMC election 2017 will be out on 23 February.
Devendra Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray, who have led their respective parties from the front and were involved in a high decibel and no holds barred campaign relegating the Opposition Congress and NCP to the background.
