Pakistan Army keeping a close eye on eastern border

The Pakistan Army is closely monitoring the developments on the border with India and was ready to respond to "any situation", the chief military spokesman said on Tuesday.

Islamabad: The Pakistan Army is closely monitoring the developments on the border with India and was ready to respond to "any situation", the chief military spokesman said on Tuesday.

"We are closely monitoring the situation on the eastern border and fully prepared to respond," Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations Asim Bajwa told media after a security review meeting with Army Chief General Raheel Sharif.

He said border management would be most effective when Pakistan's efforts were matched by Afghanistan and that a few terrorists entering the country were apprehended along with women who facilitated them.

The developments came after the September 18 terror attack on the Uri Army camp in Kashmir which left 18 Indian soldiers dead. India has blamed the attack on Pakistan-based militants.

On the Uri attack, Bajwa rejected Indian allegations regarding Pakistan's involvement as "baseless", and said: "Hurling accusations on Pakistan without any evidence is regrettable."
