Bihar Assembly Elections: 15383 litres illicit liquor, Nepali currency seized

As part of Election Commission's special drive, the authorities on Saturday seized 15,383 litres of illicit liquor and Nepali currency Rs 61,565 from different parts in poll-bound Bihar.

Patna: As part of Election Commission's special drive, the authorities on Saturday seized 15,383 litres of illicit liquor and Nepali currency Rs 61,565 from different parts in poll-bound Bihar.

Additional Chief Election Officer R Lakshamanan said with today's seizure total 3,93,013 litres of illicit liquor have been confiscated so far.

He said over Rs 61,565 Nepali currency was seized from Kishanganj district during the drive to enforce the election code. Besides, 3.5 kg of contraband ganja was seized from Khagaria district.

Flying squad, static surveillance team and other agencies have so far seized Rs 12.48 crore, Lakshmanan said. A total of 882 cases of defacement of public property and 141 cases of defacement of private property have been lodged by the authorities till date, he said. The EC official said a total of 821 arms and weapons have been seized, while 62 persons have been arrested so far. Besides, 1,35,608 people have been detained.

A total of 62 nomination papers were filed today for the third phase of polling taking the total to 79 so far, EC sources said. Prominent among those who filed their nomination papers included RJD chief Lalu Prasad's son Tejaswi Yadav, who is contesting from Raghopur and HAM leader Vrishin Patel. Polls will be held in total 50 seats in the third phase on October 28.
