Bihar Assembly polls: FIR lodged against Lalu Yadav, Sushil Modi for violating election code of conduct

Patna: An FIR has been lodged against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi for violating the poll conduct ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

The officials at the state Election Commission stated that former Bihar CM's remark - Bihar polls would be a "backward versus forward fight" - and BJP leader Sushil Modi's statement - free lap tops will be given to Scheduled Caste and Schduled Tribe students if BJP comes to power in the state - both violates model code of conduct.

The Election Commission officials further said that Lalu`s speech was examined by the poll body after it received a complaint against him.

Further referring to Sushil Modi's case, EC said a case against him has been registered in Bhabua Nagar Police Station in Kaimur District.

Kicking off his younger son Tejaswi Yadav's election campaign from Raghopur assembly constituency on Sunday, Lalu had said that the election was a fight between backward castes and forward castes and gave a clarion call to members of the Yadav caste and OBCs to rally behind the secular alliance.

However, even after BJP and its allies slammed Lalu for saying the upcoming polls would be a "backward versus forward fight", he vowed today not to be silenced in his fight for the Dalits and OBCs' cause.

"I will continue to fight for the backwards, Dalits and poor. Even if they hang me for it, I am ready, I will not sit silent... I will fight for poor till reservation for them will not increase," he said.

Elections in Bihar to elect the 243-member house will be held in five stages between October 12 and November 5. Counting of votes will be taken up on November 8.
