Chhattisgarh: BJP MLA's nephew, others booked for thrashing corporator

A corporator was allegedly beaten up by a BJP MLA's nephew and his friends over some issue in Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar district, police said on Tuesday.

Raipur: A corporator was allegedly beaten up by a BJP MLA's nephew and his friends over some issue in Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar district, police said on Tuesday.

Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha, Bhatapara, president Ashwani Sharma, his four friends and others were booked for allegedly thrashing Ajit Bajpayee, independent corporator from Pt Deendayal Upadhyay ward, under Bhatapara (urban) police station area, a police official said.

So far no arrests have been made in this connection, he said.

Sharma is the nephew of BJP legislator from Bhatapara constituency Shivratan Sharma.

While Bajpayee was having dinner at a hotel last night, Sharma along with his friends stormed at the place and allegedly assaulted him, the police official said.

Subsequently, he reached the police station and lodged a complaint in this connection, he said.

A case under sections 294?(obscene act), 506 (criminal intimidation), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 322 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC has been registered against Ashwani Sharma, Harish Sharma, Shekhar Sharma, Sunil, Raja Jaiswal and others based on his complaint, he said.

The victim has not mentioned any reason for the attack on him in the complaint, he said, adding that, however, an investigation is on in this connection.

Bajpayee was provided treatment at a local hospital and his condition was normal, police said.
