Delhi BJP wants public holiday on chhat Puja

Delhi BJP on Monday requested chief secretary to declare a public holiday on Chhat Puja and make best possible arrangements for this festival.

New Delhi: Delhi BJP on Monday requested chief secretary to declare a public holiday on Chhat Puja and make best possible arrangements for this festival.

A delegation of BJP leaders, led by Delhi president Satish Upadhyay, met chief secretary D M Sapolia.

"Delhi government should declare a public holiday on Chhat Puja. Delhi Jal Board and Irrigation Department should also ensure proper water at ghats. Besides, disaster management squads should be posted at chhath ghats for a safe puja," Upadhyay said.

Upadhyay demanded amnesty schemes at lower rates for water and sewer connection in unauthorised colonies and improvement of roads in the national capital.

"We demand that the DJB reduce exorbitant charges related to water and sewer connection in unauthorized colonies under a one-time scheme. The charges are too high and unaffordable for lakhs of lower middle class or poor families.

"People of this colonies are not in a position to pay up such large amounts running up to lakhs of rupees per plot therefore it is suggested that an one-time amnesty scheme be brought for the people of unauthorised colonies," he added.

The Delhi BJP chief also demanded the improvement of PWD's roads and suggested that the department should create its own sanitation wing.
