Kin of security personnel killed on duty to get Rs 1 Cr: AAP-led Delhi govt

The Aam Aadmi Party government on Wednesday said it would provide compensation to the tune of Rs 1 crore to kin of uniformed services personnel killed on active duty.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party government on Wednesday said it would provide compensation to the tune of Rs 1 crore to kin of uniformed services personnel killed on active duty.

"We gave compensation of Rs 1 crore during our last term but now we have made it a policy after the cabinet meeting. Financial help is not to support livelihood of martyr family but to pay homage to his courage and sacrifice," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.

According to senior government officials, Delhi Police personnel, city residents deployed in armed forces, defence personnel from other states working in Delhi and home guard/ civic defence staffers on dangerous duty will be entitled to this financial assistance if they are killed on active duty.

"We have created a separate fund for this and provision will be made in the budget," Sisodia said.

Besides the financial assistance, relatives of martyrs will also get a job in government. "Delhi Government will ensure that family of martyr sacrificing life in the line of duty in other states also get job in Delhi," Sisodia said.

In February, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced a sum of Rs 1 crore as compensation to the family of a martyred CRPF officer, Narottam Das, a Delhi resident, who died in a landmine blast in Bihar.

Similarly during AAP's last term, it had announced similar compensation to the family of Constable Vinod Kumar who was beaten to death allegedly by bootleggers in Ghitorni village of south Delhi during a raid on December 27, 2013. The 48-year-old constable was on deputation with the Excise Department of Delhi Government.
