Setback for OP Chautala; Delhi HC asks INLD leader to surrender on Saturday

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed former Haryana chief minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala to surrender before it by tomorrow in connection with a teachers' recruitment scam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had yesterday moved the Delhi HC, seeking cancellation of interim bail granted to Chautala on health grounds.

The CBI had contended that the INLD leader had violated bail conditions by campaigning for the upcoming Assembly Elections in Haryana on October 15.

The CBI had also asked the HC to prepone the date by which Chautala had to surrender.

The court today said Chautala may be taken to AIIMS if jail/medical superintendent considers it necessary.

In the meantime, Chautala will not address any public meeting, the court added.

Chautala was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment by a Delhi court on January 22, 2013 for illegally recruiting 3,206 JBT teachers in the state in 2000.

Earlier today, Chautala appeared in a Delhi court in connection with a disproportionate assets case and sought exemption from appearance.
