Islamabad: Two fresh cases of polio were confirmed in Pakistan's Quetta and Peshawar cities on Tuesday.
The polio virus was detected in a three-year-old boy in Quetta city, Dawn online quoted sources in the Balochistan health department as saying.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) health department confirmed the virus in a one-year-old girl, the sources said.
The case came weeks after an anti-polio campaign ended on September 17 in Quetta city of Balochistan province.
The recent cases take the total number reported this year in Pakistan to 35.
Anti-polio drives in both the provinces have been marred by instances of terrorism. Health workers have been attacked and killed, while refusal to allow vaccination on the part of some parents has further worsened the situation.
Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries left in the polio-endemic nations list as Nigeria was removed from the list on Friday.
