Ashok Singhal's funeral to take place Wednesday at Nigambodh Ghat

The funeral of former Ashok Singhal will take place on Wednesday evening.

New Delhi: The funeral of former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Ashok Singhal, who died this afternoon, will take place on Wednesday evening.

The rituals of the funeral will be taking place at the NigamBodh Ghat, here at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow, a release from the Delhi office of the VHP said.

Singhal's remains will be brought to the VHP's office in Ramkrishna Puram this evening and, thereafter, it will be taken to the RSS office in Jhandewalan.

Singhal, who was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon for respiratory problems, passed away this afternoon. He was 89.

He was admitted to Medanta on October 20 after his condition deteriorated in Allahabad and was flown in to the national capital in an air ambulance.

Singhal had served as the VHP president for over 20 years until he was replaced by Praveen Togadia in December 2011 due to diminishing physical health.
