Bangladeshi man held with fake notes of Rs.18 lakh face value

The accused was apprehended by the troopers while he was trying to smuggle in the fake currency under Sovapur border outpost area.

Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) said it apprehended on Sunday a Bangladeshi man and seized fake Indian currency notes of Rs 18 lakh face value near Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal`s Malda district.

The accused Majrul Rehman, a resident of Bangladesh`s Chapai Nawabganj district, was apprehended by the troopers while he was trying to smuggle in the fake currency under Sovapur border outpost area.

"A BSF special team chased Rehman who had thrown the bag containing the notes. We have seized Rs 18 lakh in fake notes," said a BSF spokesperson.

In the current year so far, BSF has seized fake notes worth face value of about Rs 2.52 crore and apprehended 23 smugglers across the South Bengal Frontier.
