New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for support towards India-Sri Lanka relations.
Addressing a joint press conference along with Wickremesinghe, PM Modi said, “As a close neighbour and friend, we wish Sri Lanka every success, rejoice in your progress.”
In his first overseas trip after assuming the top office for the fourth term, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived here on Monday on a three- day visit.
Divulging details about his meeting with Wickremesinghe, PM Modi said, “We also expressed hope that progress on key bilateral initiatives and projects will gather speed now.”
“I assured Prime Minister Wickremesinghe of continuing commitment to our development partnership,” PM Modi asserted.
PM Modi also touched upon the ties shed between India and Sri Lanka on cricket ground.
PM Modi said: “This is a relationship that touches the hearts of ordinary Indians and Sri Lankans.”
He also said, “the great Kumar Sangakara will be missed on the cricket field.”
