Tirumala temple has 4.5 tonnes gold: Report

New Delhi: Tirumala Temple, considered as one of the country's richest temples, has nearly 4.5 tonnes of gold, as per news report on Saturday.

According to a report in the Times of India, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials have indicated that apart from the 4.5 tonnes of gold in the bank, another tonne is likely to be deposited in the temple soon.

However, the temple insiders were quoted in the report as saying that the net worth could be much more.

The quantity of gold deposited in the bank is a result of donation made by devotees in various forms, including ornaments and biscuits, which has accumulated over the years.

The temple started depositing gold donations in banks in 2010 and have since made two more deposits in 2011 and 2014, the report quoted temple authorities.
