Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday ordered reopening of schools in the border areas of Jammu from Tuesday that were closed following the increasing tension between India and Pakistan post September 29 surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC).
At least 174 schools along Indo-Pak border areas were closed down by the state government on November 1 in the wake of continuous ceasefire violation from Pakistani troops. Close to 45 border schools were also closed down in Samba in Jammu and Kashmir.
Since the unrest in Kashmir Valley began following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, as many as 32 schools have been gutted by unidentified miscreants.
The burning of schools in the Valley prompted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti regime to issue orders to teachers to keep watch at night to prevent such events.
