Case against Jharkhand BJP president for son's marriage to minor

The case was lodged by a government official under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

Ranchi: A case was filed in Godda district court on Saturday against Jharkhand BJP President Tala Marandi for allegedly getting his son Munna Marandi married to a minor girl.

The case was also filed against Munna and Bhagan Baski, father of the minor girl Ritu. The case was lodged by a government official under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights had directed the Godda district administration to submit a report and lodge a complaint against Tala Marandi and his son.

In June, allegations surfaced against Munna Marandi who was accused of sexually exploiting a minor girl on a false promise of marriage.

The minor girl on June 23 had lodged a complaint in the local court of Godda district alleging that Munna had sexually exploited her.

By that time Munna was scheduled to marry one Mamata Hansda. But she refused to marry him following the complaint of sexual exploitation by the minor girl.

Munna then married Ritu Baski, who as per her school records is just 11 years old.

Police on Friday had registered an FIR against Munna.

The FIR was lodged in Boarajora police station of Godda district after the court referred the case to the police.
