Kozhikode: A 22-year-old Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) worker was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Kozhikode in Kerala.

According to media reports, Muhammed Aslam, an IUML activist and 16 others were acquitted by a special session court early this year in connection with 2015 murder case of 19-year-old DYFI activist Shibin Bhaskaran of Thuneri in Nagapuram.

Aslam was the third accused in the case.

On Friday evening, he was going to Nadapuram from Vatakara on bike when he was attacked by a group of bike-borne assailants. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Kozhikode by locals where he succumbed to his injuries.

Tension is prevailing in Nadapuram after the murder of the IUML worker.

Police have been deployed in large number in the area.

Though, police officials were not ready to divulge any detail on the matter, sources said that revenge may be the motive behind Aslam's murder.
