American Matt Kuchar will lead a World squad against Canada in a matchup of pro foursomes in the inaugural Canada Cup match at Halifax on June 30, organisers announced Wednesday.
The event at Ashburn Golf Club will pit Canadians Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet and David Hearn against Kuchar and two other US PGA Tour players, with each side also featuring a golfer from the developmental Web.com Tour.
Kuchar, ranked 11th in the world, has won six US PGA titles, including the 2013 WGC Match Play and Memorial crowns and the 2012 Players Championship. "Canadians have tremendous pride and passion for their athletes and I look forward to playing against my fellow PGA Tour colleagues in that type of energetic environment," Kuchar said. The event format will include nine-hole singles matches and nine-hole team alternate shot matches. "Mike, David and I are excited to represent Canada and look forward to welcoming Matt and the remaining international players to compete on Canadian soil," DeLaet said.
